ANS founder Colum Traynor secured his degree in computer systems management at Carlow Institute of Technology and kicked off his career with the biggest software company of them all – Microsoft. This was an excellent platform to learn and develop but it wasn’t too long before he felt he wasn't 'getting his hands dirty enough'.
Determined to be more than just a number, he took the great experience of working at Microsoft to go it alone and secured a contract role as the sole IT Administrator for a major international trading bank who had just relocated to Dublin. Happy to admit he was somewhat out of his depth, this intense, learning-on-the-job environment has stood to him ever since. The outcome was an overwhelming success story. The contract was originally intended to be a three month project, to 'plug a hole' and sort out some I.T. problems. However the end result, 18 months later, was a well organised and tightly run modern day banking technology department and a long term happy client. The bank’s CEO described the IT transformation as like going from Faulty Tower to the Ritz!
Having turned the situation with the bank around, ensured that everything was properly set up and running smoothly, and putting in place a well trained I.T. team, the obvious choice was to continue on this path. It wasn't long before other key contracts followed. As the saying goes, the rest is history and ANS grew into the respected I.T. support business it is today.
When asked about making a decision as big as leaving a great position with a company like Microsoft, Colum points out that if you don’t take any risks in life you can’t expect any rewards.
That's great news for Irish SME's - they now have a partner in business with an I.T. company headed up by someone dedicated to success and problem-solving, with a unique and in-depth technology background.
